Food Gaita
Gaita also feeds in trees and at ground level.
It consumes a wide range of invertebrates, pests, insects, Acorns, Oak seeds (which it buries for winter use), fruit, other smaller birds, eggs, and small rodents.
Winter food is stored in hollows or under the bark of trees thus helping to spread some plant species.
Gaita Features
Gaita is a medium-sized bird of 32-35cm that weighs about 170g. the plumage is reddish, with a color of blue mottled with black on the wings.
The unusual sound is an alarm call, a scream used to spot various prey animals. Gaita is known for imitating different species, the difference being almost impossible to make without seeing the bird.
In case of danger warn other birds with an alarm sound.
Breeding Gaita
Nests are built in trees or shrubs in early April, and at the end of the month the female lays and hatches in them usually 4-7 eggs, greenish white, which hatch after 16-19 days.
