Cat Gecko

Origin

The cat Gecko (Aeluroscalabotes felinus) belongs to the family Gekkonidae, genus Aeluroscalabotes. It can be found in the wild in Thailand, Kalimantan, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
This species has two subspecies: aeluroscalabotes felinus felinus and aeluroscalabotes felinus multituberculatus.
The face of Madagascar's day geckos seeking the sun's rays, the cat geckos live in high areas with flowing waters. It prefers cooler temperatures and shade of forests.
It is called the cat gecko because it has retractable claws and sleeps with its tail beside its body just like a cat.

Feeding the cat Gecko

When it comes to lizards, everyone knows they feed on insects. The cat Gecko besides insects also feeds on some small invertebrates that it catches near the water.
In captivity, crickets, larvae and cockroaches are recommended. Do not forget to give them calcium powder on average 3-4 times a week before eating them.
For a more correct diet it is best to offer the animal varied food. Besides "moving", meaning live food, you can pamper it with various fruit salads.
Calcium and vitamins are needed to replenish nutrients that cannot be taken from food. Be careful, do not overdo it with calcium or vitamins because otherwise the animal will have health problems.

Features Cat Gecko

The cat Gecko is among the few species that live at such high altitudes and prefers humidity and lower temperatures. It is a semiarboricola species that comes out in search of food only at night.
The color varies between Brown and brick red. In this species, females are larger than males. They reach, at maturity, the length of 17cm, while the "gentlemen" only 10-11cm.
The cat Gecko leads a solitary life, looking for its Mate only during the breeding season. Like the cat Gecko, the cat gecko has no sticky fingers (i.e. it cannot move on almost any surface). She is forced to move on the ground or in the trees helping herself when needed and the prehensile tail(she can cling to it).
If you want to purchase one do not forget first of all to document and make the correct terrarium. A lizard that lives in unsuitable conditions generally does not have many days.
Since we have reached the terrarium it is good to be as wide as it is high. Since it is a species that likes to climb, you must give it the opportunity to do so.
The decoration can be made up of a substrate or soil in which a natural plant species can be planted on which to climb.

Breeding cat Gecko

Sexual dimorphism is relatively simple. Females are almost double the males. Above we specified that a female has about 17cm, while a male just over 10cm.
The disadvantage is that the cat gecko breeds very hard in captivity. It is recommended that you have had at least one similar reptile or lizard before.
Another advantage is that many inexperienced people ask for a cat gecko, which they torment and eventually die.
This is because they do not understand that it is a nocturnal shrew and that not all specimens have adapted to life in captivity. Many of them come from animal trafficking, that is, to be taken from their natural environment.
After mating, the female lays two eggs several times. The incubation period is about two months, and the average temperature of 25-26 degrees celsius.
Life expectancy is around 15 years.
