Food Nudge Sura

The food is made up mainly of larvae and worms that they look for in trees.

They rarely go down to the ground to look for ants and other insects.

Features Nudge Sura

The hindwings are yellowish green on the back, with the wings and tail in greenish-brown hues and the goiter and belly in grey. The male has a red spot on his forehead and the top of his head is grey. The female is missing the Red Spot.

From under the beak goes to the head a thin black line. The coloration is less intense than that of the green nudge. The body length is 27-30 cm and the wingspan is 45-50 cm.

The body conformation is specific to the woodpecker family, with its tail made of hard feathers on which it rests, with legs provided with claws with which it clings to the bark of trees and the beak is sharp and strong.

The young have a mottled appearance in the first year and a very faded coloration.

Skittish and cautious. Spring signals its presence with its cry, but summer is hard to find.

The spring cry resembles that of the green nudge, but it is weaker, softer, almost like a flute (easily imitated by a whistle); the notes have longer pauses between them and are slightly slowed towards the end, and the decrease in tonality is evident: "chi-chi-chi-chi-CU-cu".

The alarm cry is repetitive:" chia", intense and agitated. He has another shout:" chic " similar to that of the large mottled woodpecker. Unlike the green nudge, it beats the darabana frequently: sudden knocks that last about a second, much stronger than those of the green nudge.
