Facts

Origin

Like all Eagles, it belongs to the family Accipitridae.

It can be found in the area from northern Europe to Asia and in winter in southeastern Europe, Middle East and southern Asia.

The English name is Greater Spotted Eagle.

Feeding The Great Screaming Eagle

Being a migratory bird means it has a varied menu.

The food of the large Screaming Eagle consists of small mammals, small and medium birds, reptiles and amphibians.

Features Large Screaming Eagle

Fast wing beats, almost like sorecar. The wings are typically arched downward when gliding through the air. Silhouette similar to that of the small Screaming Eagle, but with slightly more digitated and wider wings at the level of the secondary remiges.

In plumage juv. and im. it is best distinguished (in flight) from the lesser spotted eagle by its black-brown underparts, darker than the remiges.

The adult is uniformly dark brown, often somewhat lighter on the supracodals and above the wing with a faint light spot at the base of the primary remiges.

In worn plumage it may have lighter brown lower and upper alar tetrices, but the front edge of the wing (small supercharges) is usually black-brown.

The juvenile is almost black with white spots on the tips of the forewings and scapulars (variable in width, forming one or more stripes on the wing) and with white supracodals.

The narrow open stripe (tips of Superchargers II) on the upper face of the wing is typical for transitional plumages. He makes high-pitched screams:" chiac-chiac-chiac, " like the Yelp of a dog.

Breeding Great Screaming Eagle

It nests in wooded lands, often near lakes, rivers, ponds.

The female lays 1 to 3 eggs in a nest usually made in trees.

The chicks of this bird have white spots on the wings.
