Facts

Other names: Havana brown cat, Chocolate Cat, HB

Brown cats have been known for centuries. They are probably native to Southeast Asia and are part of the larger group of Siam Cats. They arrived in Britain in the nineteenth century with the importation of Siamese.

These cats have been described as"Siamese with brown fur and blue-green eyes". Havana Brown is perfect for people who want a sociable, affectionate and friendly friend because of their behavior they are also called chocolate cats.

Documents attest that brown cats were known and exhibited in Europe around 1890. One of the names they received is that of "Swiss mountain cats".

They disappeared until after the Second World War, making their appearance again in 1950. The ancestor of the Havana Brown Breed, as we know it today, is the result of an accidental mating between a short-haired black cat and a Siamese seal-point.

Appearance Cat Havana Brown

The first thing that stands out about this cat is its shiny, mahogany-colored fur . Another unique feature is the head, more long than wide.

His body is medium in size, must be firm and muscular, giving at the same time both an impression of strength, elegance and Grace.

Males tend to be larger, usually weighing between 3.5 and 4.5 kg, while females weigh between 2.7 and 3.5 kg.

At birth, the kittens are completely brown in color. Head: seen from above, the head is more long than wide, narrowing towards the snout, with dimples visible at the moustache joint areas. The somewhat narrow muzzle and moustache area are the specific features of this breed and should be evident in typical specimens.

From the profile, the stop can be noted very clearly, at eye level; the muzzle seems to be square, this illusion being amplified by the well-developed Chin, whose contour is square, not rounded.

Preferably, the tip of the nose should form a line almost perpendicular to the chin. The Havana brown cat's ears are large, rounded at the tip, with a cup-shaped base, arranged at an appreciable distance from each other; they are pointed in the forward direction, giving the cat an alert expression. It shows little hair, both inside and outside.

The eyes are Oval in shape, medium in size and are located at an appreciable distance from each other; they are bright, alert and expressive. Color: any shade of green, being preferred the most intense. The ideal specimen has rather long legs compared to the average size of the body and tail.

The limbs are straight, those of the females are thin and delicate. Adult males have strong, very muscular limbs. The hind legs are slightly longer than the forelegs. The paws are oval and compact, with five fingers at the front and four at the back.

The tail has an average length, directly proportional to that of the body; it is thin, has no whip shape, but is not blunt either; it is rounded at the tip and not too wide at the base.

Because Havanese are short-haired cats, routine maintenance is minimal. If you are attending exhibitions with your cat, it is necessary to give him a bath a few days before the show. After completely drying the fur, gently brush it, removing the dead hairs.

The coat is short to medium, smooth and shiny. It is Brown in color, the shade being uniform throughout the body surface. The coat tends more towards the reddish shade (mahogany), than towards the black-brown one. The skin of the nose is also brown with a pink tinge. The forewings have a pinkish tinge, and the whiskers are completely brown.

It is advisable for such a cat to be kept exclusively indoors, to be neutered or neutered and to have provided the necessary food, special surfaces for practicing claws and areas where it can play at will.

These cats can adapt to the trips you make by car, plane or any other means of transport, being a good "traffic"partner. Some purr so noisily, they seem to vibrate!

Thanks to all these qualities, Havana Brown is an ideal pet, whether you want to present with it in exhibitions or simply keep it only for yourself.

It is not uncommon for such a cat to touch you with its paw to attract your attention or break it on the run, then sit down straight at your feet, insistently asking to scratch your belly.

Due to the flexibility these cats show, they will adapt to your daily schedule, but it is not advisable to leave them alone for longer periods of time.

There are several theories on how these cats got their name. Some historians claim that the breed was named after a rabbit of the same color; however, most admirers of this cat believe that the name of the breed comes from the color of Havanese cigarettes.
