Species of jackals:
The Jackal (Canis Aureus Moreoticus) is a wild carnivorous mammal of the family Canidae, similar to the wolf, but smaller than it, with a shorter tail and pointed snout, living in northern Africa, southern Asia and southern Europe.
In Romania The Jackal appears especially in the Danube Delta where it usually runs in packs. It has been seen in Oltenia, Muntenia and Dobrogea.

Jackal Food


It is, like all canids, a potentially omnivorous animal, but which prefers carnivorous food. It feeds on insects, birds, mice and other rodents, but also on corn, grapes, etc.
He's also a scavenger. The fact that they feed on such a wide range of fruits, birds, animals, dead animals, etc.makes them very adaptable to the environments in which they live. Its activity is predominantly nocturnal.

Jackal Appearance


It is intermediate between the Wolf and the Fox, having the general shape similar to the Fox, but the fur with the same structure as the wolf, being therefore called "Golden Wolf".
The length of the body is 70-105 cm, not counting the tail (20-25 cm). At the withers it reaches up to 50 cm in height. The maximum weight is between 12-15 kg.

Jackal Behavior


The common Jackal lives in open savannas, desert and arid areas. They are often described as opportunistic carnivores. They hunt antelopes and other small animals.
They usually live alone or in pairs, but can also be seen in small packs.
They are among the few species in which the male and female mate for the rest of their lives or for the very long term.
They are territorial animals. Both females and males mark and defend their territory.

Jackal Breeding


Jackals dig their vision, shelter in one made by another animal before or hide in caves. Some jackals prefer Burrows with multiple exits.
The Jackal Barlog is not very deep, but it is usually located in lonely places, in vagauni with maracinis and other hard-to-reach places. There Jackal females usually give birth to 2-4 Cubs, but there are cases when up to 8-9 Cubs can be born.
Older brothers who have remained with their parents contribute to the upbringing of oribi newborn puppies. Newborn puppies will open their eyes only after 10 days.
Mating is done, as in the other canids, in February-March, gestation lasting all 62-63 days.
Chickens are fed with regurbed food until 2 months of age. From the age of 3 months he follows his parents. At the age of 6 months he hunts. For a while the parents feed, care and play with them.
