Origin

Odonus Niger, also known as the Red-toothed triggerfish, is part of the family Balistidae, order Tetradontiformes. They can be found in the Red Sea, South Africa, northern Japan or Australia.
They inhabit reef waters where they can be observed in groups feeding on plankton brought by currents. It sinks to depths of 50 meters.
The name triggerfish is given by the dorsal spines it uses to immobilize itself in certain places. The English name Red Tooth Triggerfish is due to the color of the front teeth of reddish color.
It was first described by Ruppell in 1937.
