It is a herbivorous, algae-eater. Although they are not active during the day, it is a pleasure to watch them. During the day he prefers to stay hidden longer, at night he is much more active and with appetite.

Otto Features

They have a long body, the predominant color is gray and shows stripes of color near the head to the tail. On the body it also shows silvery – white colors. It reaches up to 5 cm. We can also find it under the names: Otocinclus bororo, Otocinclus Catfish, Otto and Dwarf Otocinclus.
The life span is around 5 years. The temperature should be somewhere around 20-26degrees C, and the ph between 6 and 8. Otto are sensitive to water quality, so you need to make water changes often.
The period of getting used to a new environment is the most difficult and is hardly realized. In the first month there is the highest risk of death, in which the fish dies suddenly without a well-founded reason. The first week is the hardest. To reassure him, it is good that the new environment is well planted and has many algae.
Otto will clean the plant face to destroy it. Prefer aquariums where water is moving, preferably a current formed by the filter, well planted aquariums that also have hiding places, with sand or small substrate. Hiding places can be made of stones, stumps, decor. The water must be clean.
If there are no algae in the aquarium, they can starve, so it is advisable to supplement their diet with pieces of cucumber, small pieces of lettuce and food that remains untouched by Fish and falls on the substrate. These fish have no feeling of saturation and feel the need to eat continuously. Like any sanitary, they prefer the bottom area, on gravel, but also the middle one, instead we will not see them in the upper part of the aquarium.

Reproduction Otto

The aquarium should not be less than 40 liters. It is advisable to keep them in the company of other small fish, it is not advisable to keep them with aggressive and large fish because they will consider them a delicious meal.
It is a peaceful fish and is not aggressive with other fish. It is preferable to have more copies because in the group they feel better, you need at least three.
If they are less, they will stress and automatically, they will get sick faster. The more there are, the easier they get used to, feeling safe. Males are smaller than females and to be able to mate we need one male to two females. Eggs are laid both on plants and on the substrate.
