Origin

It can be found in central Argentina and North America, preferring wet regions with grass or sandy places with spiky bushes and cacti. Although it generally moves very slowly, when in danger it retracts its body in just a few seconds. The armor functions as a plug that closes the entrance to the shell.

It is also called: the pink fairy armadillo.

Pink Armadillo feed

Pink armadillos build small holes in the ground near anthills, which are their favorite food. They occasionally eat worms, snakes, insects and larvae and rarely eat root plants.

Features pink Armadillo

Specimens of this species are only 90-115 mm long, excluding the tail, weigh about 120 grams, and the predominant color is pink. The body is provided with a white fur covering their face and sides and stretches on both sides of the carapace. The pink Armadillo is distinguished from other species in that it is the only one whose carapace does not cover the dorsal part of its body.

The eyes and ears of this mammal are small, and the nose sharp. The tail is immobile, so when it moves, it actually crawls on the ground, which causes its gait to be slowed down.

Breeding Pink Armadillo

Females of this species lay a single egg from which always emerge four young idealistic in appearance and sex. They develop in the same placenta and are generically referred to as pups ("pups").

The number of pink armadillos has decreased significantly in recent times, being affected both by habitat destruction and by their main enemies: domestic dogs.
