Food Poecilotheria ornata
There are no special rules for feeding this tarantula, practically the only obligation of the owner is to provide him with food, because from here on the tarantula will take care of everything.Features Poecilotheria ornata
Poecilotheria ornata is an arboreal species, reaching dimensions of 18-22 centimeters, with an aggressive temperament. Being an Asian species does not show hives.
It is one of the largest species of the genus, with a fairly rapid growth rate. Juveniles will spend most of their time in galleries or the nest they build, while adults will no longer stay hidden, spending quite a lot of time outside, which makes them good display animals. The species is known for the way it defends itself, again mistakenly called "aggressiveness". It is one of the tarantulas that should not be handled. firstly because of the strong venom and secondly because the specimens do not hesitate to attack. Once he's in an intimidating position, he'll bite without warning. Another characteristic common to all representatives of this genre, also an argument in favor of unpretentiousness is speed. When they are scared, especially juveniles, they are extremely fast. As someone said,"I don't think he runs, but he teleports to where he wants to go". Aggressiveness, strong venom and speed make Poecilotheria ornata a tarantula that will not be manipulated no matter what.
Terrarium
Being an arboreal tarantula, it needs more space vertically than horizontally, also branches to climb on and possibly a bark in which to hide. The temperature in the terrarium should be within 22 – 26 degrees Celsius, and the relative humidity of the air around 70%. in the case of juveniles we recommend a slightly thicker layer of substrate, to give the animal the opportunity to build galleries in which to hide.
Venom
All species of tarantulas possess venom. Although it is not very potent, bites are never placute.De just like any species of tarantula and Poecilotheria ornata can be unpredictable and a bite can occur at any time. It should be noted that this species is responsible for the only case of coma induced by tarantula venom.
For these reasons we recommend maximum attention when the tarantula is fed, moved or when its terrarium is cleaned.
It is not recommended to handle tarantulas, especially by those without experience.
Reproduction Poecilotheria ornata
Regarding reproduction, the only detail to mention is that it is possible for the female to attack the male and kill him.
