Origin
This does not prevent him from having a hard and powerful beak and a long tail.
In the past it was a species of the genus Ara, but this was incorrect. Primolius prefers moist forests with openings , for example along rivers or in clearings.
It has also been observed in swamps or on the outskirts of cities. It can be found from the ses up to an altitude of 1550m. like many other parrots it is a visitor to the Amazon river bank for Clay.
Feeding Parrot Primolius
Food is composed of various foods: nuts, seeds, berries, flowers, leaves, etc.
Like most parrots they need clay to combat toxins in some of the fruits they consume.
Being smarter animals than monkeys in this chapter, parrots eat the fruits that monkeys would eat earlier.
Because they have a large amount of toxins the birds neutralize these toxins with clay from the banks of rivers.
Features Parrot Primolius
Primolius has the predominant green color. Although it is jokingly compared to a cucumber it has traces of blue, red, yellow, etc.
The strong beak is black at the base opening to the tip.
The iris is light in color, and the facial skin, unlike the other species has gray color. The hindwings are pale pink.
His sounds are high and softer than most other parrots.
It was considered a common bird until 2006 when an assessment estimated a population of 1000-2500 specimens and it was classified as a rare bird. In 2007 it was considered that previous estimates were too low, with the number of specimens being somewhere between 10,000 and 45,000.
Much of the forests where it lives today remain intact, but habitat loss is sure to be a threat. It can be found in several protected areas (Manu or Tambopata-Candamo).
Primolius is rarely found in captivity, its price is over $ 12,000, in recent years reaching 4-5 thousand.
