Origin
The Romanian Raven Shepherd is a large breed of dog, strong and robust, which has developed on the country's lands, in the Carpathians and Southern Subcarpathians.
A guard dog, the Romanian shepherd dog corb owes its name to its predominantly black coat.
The Romanian Raven Shepherd is a natural breed that was formed in the Southern Carpathians and subcarpathians, in Dambovita, Arges, Prahova and Brasov counties. The breed has always been used to guard sheep and cattle herds, but also homes.
Although its distribution area is limited, the population of Romanian shepherd dogs corbi is quite numerous today.
The breed was recognized by the Romanian Kennel Association on November 14, 2008, after drafting the standard according to the model established by the FCI General Assembly in Jerusalem in 1987.
The International Kennel Federation included the Romanian Raven Shepherd in Group II Pinscher-Schnauzer, Molossoids, Swiss herd and mountain dogs and other breeds, Section 2.2 Molossoids, Mountain Type, without working sample.
Feeding the Raven Shepherd
The Carpathian Shepherd Dog is not a picky dog for food. As a dog is used more by peasants at the moment it gets its food from them, but that does not mean that it can not be fed with diversified food.
Whether you feed him with food cooked in the house specifically for him (I personally recommend this dish), or buy him grains or canned food at the store, the dog will be pleased if he gets the necessary amount of vitamins and proteins.
Your dog survives on just one meal a day, but it is recommended to give him at least two meals for better digestion.
Food should be put in a bowl because it is not a bird to need soil or sand. If you throw a bone in the sand to a dog you will see that it shakes it before eating it to get rid of as much sand as possible. Water should be fresh and always at hand for the animal to quench its thirst.
After eating it is good to give him teeth cleaning bars, I think at least one a day or two days is ok. They are found more recently in all specialty stores and cost only a few lei.

Raven Shepherd behavior
The Romanian shepherd is a smart, cheerful and active dog.
Proud and calm, he obeys his master and his family, establishing a good relationship with the children as well. He has a very well-developed protective instinct, so he will treat strangers approaching his home, herd or family with suspicion.
It shows courage in confronting predators-wolves, bears, lynxes-and its barking is very loud, which can be heard from great distances. Therefore, the Romanian shepherd is an excellent companion in Mountain hikes.
When it comes to family relationships, it is a friendly breed. The Romanian shepherd is loving and friendly with his owner and family. He establishes an excellent relationship with the children, with whom he plays, but whom he also protects.

Features Raven Shepherd
Romanian shepherd Corb prefers living in open spaces, which gives him freedom of movement. For rest, prefer the arrangement of the sleeper in a perimeter delimited with a fence.
It copes with the unfavorable conditions of temperature and humidity. It can also be grown in confined spaces (apartment), provided it is allowed to exercise abundantly every day.
The black and dense coat of the Romanian Raven Shepherd needs a constant brushing so as not to break. As for bathing, it should be done periodically, with a moderate frequency, so as not to favor the installation of problems in the skin caused by excess sebum removal.
Diseases Sheepdog Raven
The Romanian shepherd is a robust and resistant dog that is not prone to illness. Its resistance is also due to natural selection which, over time, led to the elimination of specimens with defects or a weak immune system.
Deworming and periodic vaccinations are essential, and in the case of bringing a Romanian Raven Shepherd from the countryside to the city environment, these are all the more important.
Among the problems that the breed may face are genetic diseases, such as osteoarticular diseases – coxofemoral dysplasia, hypertrophic osteodystrophy and others.
Also, being a large breed with deep thorax, the Romanian Raven Shepherd can face gastric dilation and torsion, which requires emergency interventions. In addition, during the development period of the offspring, they may present osteoarticular problems due to the rapid growth rate.
In this case, nutrition and movement are two very important factors that will decide the health of adult Romanian Ravens shepherds. The special regime is maintained until the age of about 1 year and a half, after which the dogs can return to a normal diet and physical exertion.
