Origin
The Red Line Torpedo Barb (Sahyadria denisonii) is a species of cypirid which lives in the wild only in the Western Ghats of India. It is a popular aquarium fish first described in
year 1865.
It can also be found under the names: Denison barb, roseline shark, Sahyadria denisonii, Bleeding Eye Barb, Miss Kerala, Denison's Flying Fox, etc. It is called Miss Kerala because it is endemic
in Kerala.
The Red Line Torpedo Barb is threatened with extinction from the natural environment.
Red Line Torpedo Barb
The Torpedo barb fish is omnivorous. He's not a pretentious fish. Live food helps to highlight colors and reproduce. The health of animals can be seen in the appearance of the body and the energy they have.
In captivity it can be fed with live food, insects, meat, shrimp, plants, flakes or food in the form of granules. (Artemia, Daphnia, larvae, etc.)
Appearance Red Line Torpedo Barb
Torpedo Bard can reach 15cm in length. It needs an aquarium of at least 200 liters. It is characterized by torpedo-shaped shape with silver-colored scales, the red line that appears
at the level of the mouth, eyes and part of the body, and the black line that is along the entire length of the body. The older you get, a green/blue mark may appear in the head area.
The species can reach up to 15 cm in length, but the average length is 9 – 11 cm.
Sexual dimorphism is noticeable, males are more brightly colored, and females have a more pronounced abdomen.
It's a freshwater fish. The Ph should be 6.8 – 7.8, the water hardness 5 – 25, and the water temperature 18-26 degrees.

To highlight the colors of the Torpedo barb fish it is recommended that the substrate in the aquarium be dark and the aquarium be populated with plants that provide shade areas.
It is a peaceful fish that lives in shoals. It can be easily aggressive when fed and if the space in which it is kept is smaller than it should be. It is recommended to purchase at least 5-6 fish.
Red Line Torpedo Barb is a new reltiv presence in the aquarium world.
Reproduction Red Line Torpedo Barb
Torpedo Barb fish have been breeding in captivity more easily since 2009 thanks to two fish lovers at Chester Zoo. The sex ratio is one male to two females. To facilitate reproduction the aquarium should be decorated with leaves and plants for spawning.
After spawning move the adults. The fish will begin to emerge from the eggs within 24-48 hours. They can be fed with Artemia.
Life expectancy is 5-8 years.
