Features Rhinoceros Beetle

The rhinoceros beetle is 6-10 cm in size. The body of adults is robust, strong, having a more or less dark chestnut color. The size in both sexes varies from 25 to 43 mm.

Sexual dimorphism is pronounced in this species, the male having a strong horn on the head, arched towards the posterior part. The male has the appearance of a rhino, hence the popular name. The female has no outgrowth on the head, she shows only a conical tubercle on the thorax.

Compared to its size it is the most powerful being on Earth because it can lift 850 times its weight. It is a nocturnal species, appearing at dusk, during the day sitting in hiding places. They have been found to be attracted to bright lights.

Cockroaches are pets in Asia because they are easier to care for. In some countries cockroaches are made to fight each other while people make bets for the winner.
