Origin

Scottish fold is a breed of domestic cat obtained by natural mutation.

The breed originated in 1961 in Perthshire, Scotland when a cat gave birth to two pups with their ears drooping. An old farmer named William Ross acquired one of the two cubs, registered it in 1966 and following a breeding program gave birth to 76 Cubs. 42 of these chickens had their ears down.

In the 70s the breed was not accepted at competitions due to genetic mutations and health problems (ear infections, hearing problems).

To eliminate these problems the breed was crossed with British Shorthair and American Shorthair.

Her name comes from the English "fold" which means "to fold, to bend" and refers to her unique ears.

Scottish Fold Appearance

As his name implies, his ears are like those of a puppy. They can leave both on the face and on the back.

He weighs 5 kg and likes to sleep on his back.

This natural mutation affects the cartilage of the ears and they do not sit straight like in other cats. It is also called the owl cat or Highland Fold Cat.

Features Of The Scottish Fold

Even if she washes herself, she needs attention to be healthy and beautiful. Ears and teeth should be checked regularly. Nails should be cut almost weekly and eyes cleaned with a soft cotton cloth as needed.

The most common breeds of Scottish Folds have fur in color combination, such as Tabby, Tortoiseshell and Calico. Long-haired breeds have other names, namely: Coupari, Highland Fold and Longhair Fold.

They are also recognized for being among the only breeds of cats that maintain the mood for play during most of their lives.

If it is kept in the apartment brushing is very important. It sheds regularly throughout the year and a little more in some periods such as spring.
