Origin
Stingrays are cartilaginous fish related to sharks. They are found in warmer waters of temperate zones and in tropical areas and subtropicale.In North can be found as far south as Scandinavia. They are called stingrays because their character somewhat resembles that of ordinary cats, they own a needle or rather a bone impale with venom.
Sea cat food
The flat organism allows them to effectively hide in the aquatic environment. It only moves a little to lift a layer of sand from the ground and then quickly sticks to the ground, letting the sand fall and cover it entirely.
Only the eyes and tail remain in sight. Because the eyes are above the Rays can't see their prey, they use smell and receptors similar to those of the shark.
Stingrays feed on mollusks, crustaceans that they pull out of the sand, and small fish.
Some species have strong jaws that allow them to break or crush bone carcasses while other species have jaws adapted for sucking. They usually prefer to feed in areas with coral reefs where they share territory with sharks.
Sea Cat appearance
Their shape varies from rectangular to rounded, and their body is spotted or Marbled.
There are more than 80 species of stingrays, their length ranging from 1.5 to 4m, and width from 30cm to 4m. some of them are freshwater, but most of them are saltwater.
Body weight is from 750g to 340 kg. The venomous spines of the cat are arranged on its long tail that resembles a whip.
The length of the spines varies, in some species they can reach 40cm in length. These spines have a ventral renura inside, and inside there is a tissue responsible for the production of Venom.
Behavior Sea Cat
The big cat does not attack humans although it is an aggressive animal. To avoid and scare these animals from the shallower areas, it is enough to throw stones into the water before entering the area.
The needle is not very dangerous, unless it touches a vital area (as was the case with Steve Irwin when he was stung by a big cat Barb during a documentary in the heart). As a result of a possible injury you may have local trauma, muscle cramps due to Venom, possible infection and obviously pain.
In some species the needle usually breaks into the wound and surgery is needed to remove it.
Breeding Sea Cat
The mating season begins in winter.
When the male is courting a female, he follows her closely by biting off her pectoral disc, then mates.
The Stingray gives birth to 5 to 13 live Cubs.
This develops the embryos inside without the placenta, and after birth it secretes uterine milk.
