Facts

Temperament: agile, loyal, energetic, brave, intelligent

Origin

Shikoku can also be found under one of the names: Kochi-ken, Mikawa Inu or japanese wolfdog.

The shikoku breed of dogs was born by crossing the Akita and Shiba breeds.

This breed was created especially for hunting deer and Wild Boars.

Shikoku Inu Food

Shikoku is not a picky person when it comes to food. Accept both purchased food (grains or canned food) and home-cooked food.

I personally recommend home-cooked food because this way you can control and provide your dog with the proteins, vitamins, minerals, fatty acids he needs at every meal.

The amount of food and the dose of each food is calculated according to its activity level and age. Growing puppies and dogs, generally those between the ages of 0 and one year eat more in relation to their bodies.

It is best to avoid foods that cause loose stools or stomach gas in large quantities, or that cause discomfort(cabbage, corn, beans, etc.).

Be careful with the amount of food because you may suffer from obesity. In addition to food, the dog should have a bowl of fresh water at all times to drink when thirsty.

Appearance Shikoku Inu

The standard for this breed is 43-53cm tall.

Dogs can be found under various colors, some that fit into the star, others that do not fit into the standard(red-black, black-tan, cream).

In addition to these colors, you can see the white color in the lower part of the body, near the eyes, muzzle and legs. The animal tends to shed once or twice a year.

The fur is quite thick, the ears are pointed and the tail is curved.

Although it looks similar to the husky, Shikoku is a physically unique dog, differing primarily in height and color. It is a medium-sized dog.

Shikoku Inu Behavior

Shikoku is a cautious and brave dog. Sometimes he is allowed to run wild boars to preserve his hunting instincts.

It is an agile dog, adapted to mountainous regions, ideal for energetic and active people. Despite the large amount of energy he has, he can be calm and quiet at the same time.

He learns quickly because he is intelligent. It is as stubborn as the other Japanese dog breeds. It is not a recommended dog for anyone, with an emphasis on those who have no experience in raising and educating dogs.

Shikoku Inu Dressage

Training should be done by an experienced and authoritative person because although Shikoku is an intelligent dog, it is also stubborn.

A training session should not be long because the dog can get bored.

Features Of Shikoku Inu

Washing your dog in excess dries its skin. A wash every few months is enough especially since the animal does not have a strong dog smell.

If he does his daily exercise he is a happy dog.

It should not be left unattended because it can activate its hunting instinct and go to chase various birds or animals.

Shikoku Inu Diseases

With a lifespan of up to 10-12 years Shikoku must receive proper care. Health directly affects the longevity of the dog.

He may suffer from common diseases if he is not fed properly or does not make his daily movement mandatory. From the category of joint diseases can occur diseases of bones, joints, ears, muscles or nerves.

Various traumas or infections may occur. More serious diseases that the animal can suffer from are those that affect the heart, lungs, digestive system or kidneys.
