Origin

During the winter it retreats to the southern and western areas.

Although it can be found throughout the country, the spoonbill is a fairly rare species, with a higher density of specimens in the Danube Delta.

Feed Rate Spoon

They obtain food from the surface of the water or from its bottom by diving and this consists of seeds, roots, various vegetable matter and small aquatic creatures.

Features Spoon Rate

The male is very beautifully colored during the winter. The head and base of the tail are green with metallic reflections, the chest is white and the abdomen and sides are red-brick.

The back is black, as is the beak and the legs are orange.

The duck's eyes are yellow while the duck's eyes are black. The beak is long and wide and this is where the species name came from. The female resembles the large duck in appearance.

The mirror is metallic green, bordered anteriorly by a white band.

During the summer the male has a plumage similar to the female. The body length is 45-50 cm, the wingspan is 70-85 cm and the weight is 0.5 – 1 kg.

Reproduction Rate Spoon

The spoonbill builds its nest in vegetation near the water and the female lays 8-10 eggs in a single series per year.

Only the female hatches for 23-25 days and takes care of the chicks.
