Facts
One of the most impressive dinosaurs is the Styracosaurus, which is distinguished by the number of its horns, but also by their size and distribution.
Its snout ends with a narrow and well-shaped beak, which had the role of catching but also breaking plants. It had a robust structure that together with its two powerful horns could deter even the most ferocious carnivori.Pe the tip of the muzzle had a sharp horn, half a meter long, which only with one movement managed to split the attacker's abdomen and then with other blows managed to cause other serious wounds on the sides of the body.
On the top of his head he had two other much larger horns which continued on the side with several long bony spines of decreasing size, positioned on the edge of the shield. His head thus reached a length of 2 m and a width of 1.5 m.
Also its massive body reached the length of 5.5 m, height of 1.6 m and weight of 3 tons.
His body was covered with thick skin, his limbs were huge, muscular, finished with hoofed fingers. No matter how fierce the predatory dinosaurs were, if Styracosaurus took a frontal position towards them it could always defend itself successfully. Many of them were just scared by his threatening attitude.
If a dinosaur dared to attack him in the neck, he was always met by a stampede of horns, which hurt him so much that he gave up the idea of hitting again. If you add the pushing force of this giant 5.5 tons, we could say that this dinosaur could quietly search for its favorite food without worrying about predators.
Due to its large mass it moved on all four limbs and had the ability to run at very high speed, reaching about 25-30 km/ h.
And during the mating season, horns were used as weapons during rivalries between males. They struck each other with their heads and horns to gain supremacy in the herd, defend their territory and impress the females. When faced with each other, the horns did not collide with each other, they slid past each other, thus avoiding damage to them. The large number of fossils found together shows that these prehistoric animals migrated in large groups.
