It has been successfully introduced to several small islands in the Indian Ocean: Mauritius and Rodriguez, the island of Mahe, the Comoros Islands and the island of Zanzibar. They prefer more open forests than dense ones.

It is also called the Agapornis parrot (in English lovebirds). They got this name because they are very attached birds to their partner.
