Facts

Origin

Also known as Kongo or red-headed parrots, they are not common on the market, but are more commonly bred as flat birds.

Feeding Parrot Jardine

Jardine parrots like African grey parrots have problems with a lack of calcium that poses a serious threat to their health. Natural or full spectrum light is important in helping and maintaining calcium balance.

Some breeders to prevent calcium deficiencies give them to parrots a specially prepared diet that leads to a faster assimilation of calcium. It is good that the food they receive should be as diverse as possible.

They need to receive daily about 1-2 tablespoons of food to which is added about the same volume of fresh fruits and vegetables.

For good behavior they can also be rewarded with rewards. Daily ensure the parrots clean and fresh water.

They are very difficult to feed by man. Very small puppies need to be fed frequently, so it is best to let their mother do this. The wings of the chicks grow to 8-10 weeks.

Features Parrot Jardine

They are medium-sized birds, 25-28 cm, have short and square tails, have red markings on the skull cap, on the side of the wings and on the legs.

Birds have a deep green color, accentuated by black feathers and with green on the sheaths. They like to be given attention.

Although these parrots are not great talkers, they have some limited ability to imitate. They are very active and must be provided with toys, pieces of wood from which they can chew or branches from non-toxic trees.

Adult birds are less adaptable to unfamiliar environments and diet changes.

The Colovia of parrots must be spacious so that they can move and spread their wings. A minimum space could be 150x150x200cm.

At least once every two weeks or 2-3 times a month it is good to be allowed to fly. This can be done in a smaller room. It helps a lot in muscle development and maintenance.

Weight is about 300 grams.

It is a very sociable, affectionate, gentle and playful parrot, good imitator of gestures and mimicry. It's not loud at all.

Breeding Parrot Jardine

When they reach sexual maturity at 3-4 years, they tend to be more independent. Adult males can become aggressive during the breeding season.

Jardine parrots breed well in captivity especially in spring. Females usually hatch 2-4 eggs.

Nesting boxes can be 25x25x30 cm or 30x30x35 cm or an L-Shaped Box.

Diseases that can be contacted by these parrots are: psittacosis, beak disease, plucking feathers, calcium deficiency, respiratory diseases, bacterial and viral infections.

In good living conditions where their cage will be cleaned regularly and they will have a proper nutrition you should not have any problems.

They can live up to 30 years although their lifespan is about 15-20 years.
