In 1951 the Institute of Zootechnical Research initiated a special program for the creation of a semi-heavy horse, with skills for heavy transport and for special works in agriculture.

The basis of the formation of this breed is the systematic crossbreeding performed in the stud farms Rusetu (Buzau) and Bontida (Cluj) between Trapas, Furioso North Star, Lipitan, Ardenez and local ialomitene mares.

It was desired to obtain a large type (156cm waist, rectangular body format and body weight over 550 kg) and a small type of semi-heavyweight with a slightly smaller waist and weight.

The breed was homologated in 1985 and has proven to be useful for agricultural work and heavy transport, due to its remarkable strength, development in both step and trot allure.

The neck is muscular, the back and Salas are wide and strong, the croup long and wide.

The chest is broad and muscular, the limbs muscular and with generally correct aplombs and strong joints.

The hoof is medium-sized, with a sturdy Horn. The common color is murga, but quite often the colors deresa and peach appear, reflecting the colors with above average frequency from Ardenez breeds.

The traction record in the start event was achieved over the distance of 195 m with a weight of 19 165 kg, for 1 minute and 46 seconds.
