Origin

Present in gran Comoro, Anjouan and Moheli in close proximity to the Comoros Islands, located in the middle of the distance between the northern tip of Madagascar and the northern coast of Mozambique.

Imagine a parrot that emerges from the egg at only 18 days, loses its facial feathers during mating and can change the color of its feathers without shedding. Vasa parrot is one of the most unusual parrots in the world.

Feeding Parrot Vasa

It has a varied diet based on seeds, fruits and vegetables, such as: apples, pears, oranges, bananas, cactus fruits, pomegranate, carrot, celery, green peas, beans, sweet corn, millet, mixed seeds, green beans, and others.

Features Parrot Vasa

The parrot vasa has a length of 45 cm, the color brown with a shade of gray towards the tip of the wings. Although for the most part it is a silent bird, it can become glaginous during the 3 months of mating.

During the breeding season, the feathers on the female's body change from Gray to light brown, and the facial and head feathers fall off.

After the mating period, the plumage on the head is restored. It is believed that this change in the color of the feathers is possible without moulting by secreting an oil.

A special feature is their habit of sitting in the sun, in a strange position on the branch, with their wings or only one raised, just like pigeons.

Breeding Parrot Vasa

Unlike other species of parrots where the male is more aggressive, in the couple of Vasa parrots the female is the most violent and demanding with her partner.

She wants to enjoy the full attention of her partner by asking to be fed or satisfied.

If he refuses, he will be followed by his partner and assaulted until the trauma occurs. In order to ease the life of the males in captivity, two males are mated with a single female.

After the female lays the eggs, on average 2-3, cases have been seen in which the two bury the eggs in the nest.

After birth, puppies are dependent on their parents for 7-8 weeks.
