The Romanian trapeze has consolidated as a breed in the last decades, its formation was mainly attended by the american trapeze, in proportion of 80%, the Orlov trapeze, in proportion of 10%, the French trapeze, in proportion of 5% and the Russian trapeze, in percentage of 5%.
Also, in the complex crossbreeding made for the formation of the breed, Nonius and Furioso North-Star mares were used. The formation of the breed can be considered to have begun, on the territory of the country, about 1887, with the first imports of trapasi.
In 1930, the first amendments were introduced to the rules of trotting, in order to promote the Romanian trapeze. Thus, horses participating in running competitions, coming from imports, were penalized.
A special role in the development of the breed was played by the National Horse Breeding Society in Braila, which since 1903 regularly organizes the first trotting competitions.
The breed improvement was maintained in the interwar period, in the stud farms Rusetu, Sighireanu, Jegalia and Segarcea.
At the moment, this breed is bred and selected in the stud farms Rusetu and Dor Marunt, samples for performance testing are given on the trotting racetrack from Ploiesti.
Appearance Romanian Trapeze
As a body development, the breed is eumetric, with a waist between 155-157 cm. The head is expressive, dry, well proportioned, with rectilinear profile, always.
The neck is muscular, worn vertically, the withers are well developed, the back and shoulders are long, sturdy. The croup is long, wide, muscular.
The thorax is deep and deep , the back is straight, muscular. The limbs are dry, with strong joints and well-detached tendons, the hooves have a very strong horn.
The color of the robe is predominantly murga.
Behavior Romanian Trapeze
It is a breed that behaves very well both on the racetrack in trotting races harnessed to sulki, as well as in light traction and riding, the gentle and docile character making it also suitable for transportation of people and leisure.
The performances on the racetrack of the Romanian trapas are inferior to other breeds of trapas in the world, but it seems that nevertheless, on international racetracks, they can successfully compete against other types of trapas, such as French, american, Russian trapas.
The selection work on this breed continues, wishing to obtain specimens with higher body development, but with the preservation of speed skills.
It seems that the current type of Romanian trapeze, although eumetric, gives very good performances in our country.
It was found that specimens with a larger waist, although they have a more correct and harmonious conformation, are not so performing on the racetrack.
The Romanian trapas had an important role in the formation of the Romanian Semi-heavy breed, but also in the improvement of the local horses, the products of the local mares with trapas Stallions having a very good energy capacity, complemented by a very high mobility and a good speed of movement.
