Origin

The horse of the Vyatka breed belongs to the group of northern Russian ponies. Its development and evolution were greatly influenced by the natural conditions in the area that today we know under the name of Kriov, and in the west of the Perm region, and in Udmurtia.
The formation of the Vyatka horse breed was at times influenced by Native Estonian horse breeds brought to the region by settlers settled near Novgorod in the fourteenth century but also by edicts given by Imperial stud farms during the period of Peter the Great.
As a result, Estonian horses were imported during the development of mining operations in the Ural Mountains. The prized characteristics of the Vyatka horses included good traction skills, sufficient speed, extraordinary endurance and limited feed requirements.
This horse was often exported beyond the borders of the Vyatka province. By the middle of the nineteenth century this horse was one of the three best horses in Russia.
With the development of industry and transport and with the intensification of Agriculture, the number of horses of the Vyaka breed decreased significantly; most of the thoroughbred mares of this breed were mated with stallions of heavy traction or speed breeds.
The 1980s of horses of this breed in the Udmurtia and Kirov region showed that the number of recognized pure horses of the Vyatka breed is about 2000 copies. No stud farm or breedery produces horses of the Vyatka breed. This breed of horse is in dire need of protection, both legislative and material.
In the long term, this breed of horses could become competitive due to the increasing development of tourist activities. As specimens of high traction, horses obtained by crossing them with those of high traction are very strong horses, require minimal maintenance resources and do not get anything from ticks or other parasitic insects that attack the skin.

The average weight of this animal is 400 kg.
