Origin

The Alaskan Klee Kai is a breed of dog that was bred in Wasilla, Alaska from 1970 to 1988 by Lynda Spurlin and her family.

The goal is to get a breed of dogs similar to the Husky but smaller in size. The breed was obtained by crossing Siberian Husky, Alaskan Huskies, Schipperke and American Eskimo breeds.

They are very energetic and intelligent.

The physical genetic heritage of Northern dogs is obvious. The breed began to be officially recognized by associations after 1995.

Alaskan Food Klee Kai

Quality grains provide good feed to the breed. They can be combined with canned food or wet food.

It can also be fed with eggs, cottage cheese, certain fruits and vegetables. Homemade food should not exceed 10% of the dog's diet. Beware of allergies that can be developed individually.

It can also be fed with cooked food if it is specially prepared for it with the right proportions (proteins, vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, etc.)

Fresh water is recommended at your discretion.

Appearance Alaskan Klee Kai

Two sizes are accepted

Any size, larger usually not accepted.

The stndard of the dwarf Husky includes 3 colors: black and white, gray-white or reddish-white. There is also the white color that is not accepted.

The coat is double. The short one is soft and fluffy that keeps warm. And the one formed by the long hairs, which also gives the dog color is longer and somewhat rougher.

It is not recommended to trim it unless necessary, such as in the case of surgery.

The ears are straight, raised, mobile and triangular with slightly rounded tips. The tail is covered with fur and slightly curved outward.

Behavior Alaskan Klee Kai

Klee Kai is a very clean dog who does not like dirt. Some compare it to a cat because it does not like wet paws and if necessary spends a lot of time cleaning itself.

Like Siberian Husky molts twice a year.

It is an intelligent, agile, curious, loyal, fast and territorial breed. He tolerates children well and likes to play with them.

He is cautious and skittish with strangers.

Being active and energetic when taking him out for a walk is recommended to keep him on a leash. If you do not socialize with small animals such as hamsters, squirrels, rabbits or cats, you will tend to hunt them.

It's a great family dog.

Alaskan Dressage Klee Kai

The high level of intelligence of these dogs makes it easy to learn commands and communication with their owners. He has the desire to please his Masters and can excel at agility activities.

If he is not given enough attention or has nowhere to do his daily movement and socialization can become destructive. So if you keep it for a long time in the apartment alone you can have surprises when you get home.

Features Alaskan Klee Kai

Klee Kai is a relatively quiet and moderately active dog. He does not bark much because he is not very "talkative" although he has inherited the ability to vocalize just like the northern races.

Alaskan Diseases Klee Kai

Until some time ago it was thought to have genetic problems when compared to other breeds of small dogs.

The main diseases encountered in this breed of dog are

Thyroid

Cataract

Liver problems

Patellar dislocation

Heart problems

Cryptorchidism

Factor VII or proconvertine

You do not have to worry that these diseases will necessarily occur. They were detected most often. With proper care Klee Kai can live 15-20 years without problems.
