Origin Of The English Shepherd

Also known as the Bobtail dog, the English shepherd dog is the oldest breed of dog in England. Having such a great tradition the breed is strong and stable that other breeds have been formed with its help.

The breed is known as Bobtail because in the old days people used by tradition to cut its tail, and from the back it looks like a panda bear, but smaller.

Since 1880 it has been exported to the USA and is now popular in both countries, but not only.

English Shepherd Feed

As a chicken should be given a suitable diet for proper development. Being a large dog you can expect costs of 50-100 lei per week even when it is puppies.

Large dogs have a higher appetite than small dogs and this can lead to bloating and stomach problems.

Bobtail Appearance

It is a large dog with a very large fur coat. The fur can cover her entire face. The one right of the eyes should not be removed, but only slightly adjusted and combed (maintained). On the inside it has a dense waterproof coating.

Anyone can easily recognize it by its size and long, thick gray-white fur. The ears are flat and glued to the head.

The tail, as I said, is no longer cut, a gate hung, furry.

Behavior of a Bobtail

The English shepherd is an active, intelligent, cheerful and friendly dog. It adapts relatively easily to the needs of the family, is tolerant with children, animals and sometimes if not properly trained with some strangers.

It is not a noisy dog, it is devoted primarily to the owner and likes to be given attention.

English Shepherd Training

Training should be gentle and consistent in short and frequent sessions. It is a dog with a moderate level of activity in adulthood that wants to please the owner so he will patiently learn all the commands he wants.

Features Bobtail

Large and long fur needs permanent care starting when it is a chicken.  At first brushing is done periodically or weekly and as it grows more and more often.

In the period of shedding if not taken care of can leave a lot of hair. The size and living conditions do not recommend it for apartment life. Periodically need to groom the hair in the ears and between the pads of the paws.

The price for purebred ranges from 400 to 1000 euros. You probably realized that 400 euros is the price in Romania and around 1000 euros in England.

It is weather resistant.

Bobtail Diseases / Health

The breed is a healthy one. Perhaps among the most sanatorium. It has stabilized over time and shows no health problems. Even so, the most common diseases are hip dysplasia, caratacta, diabetes, deafness or glaucoma. May also have skin or thyroid disorders.

Most of these diseases do not occur if properly fed and cared for.
