Facts
Other names: Little Red Duck Dog, Little River Duck Dog, Novie, Scotty, Toller, Tolling Retriever, Yarmouth Toller
Origin
The name of this breed comes from the province in Canada, Nova Scotia, where it was developed.
It is believed to be descended from Red trap dogs that were mated with Spaniels, Retrievers, setters and Collies to obtain this breed.
It has a unique method of hunting – it makes a lot of noise at the waterfront jumping and running after the sticks thrown by the hunters but does not bark.
The Ducks are attracted by the noise of the water and end up in the wilderness; after this the dog takes the fallen ducks out of the water.
It is also known by the following names: Little River Duck Dog, Yarmouth Toller, Duck toller.
Food Nova Scotia
Toller puppies need to be fed food that helps form bones and cartilage. About adult dogs I can tell you that they can be fed both home-cooked and store-bought food as long as there is a nutritional balance in the diet.
Dogs are not recommended chicken bones especially cooked because they break into chips and pierce their stomach. They tend to swallow food as quickly as possible, very few grind it, and may suffer from this.
Forbidden food for dogs is chocolate and similar products. It should be remembered that a dog is not a smaller human, it remains a dog and its food is different from that of a human. Nutritional needs and elements are different.
They are generally determined(the amount of food) according to the dog's activity, age and size. If you consider that your pet does not have a balanced meal go to a veterinary office to establish with the help of the doctor a correct diet.
The Toller is a known breed of dog with few problems when it comes to food. It is not picky so you have flexibility in choosing the right diet.
Do not forget that they must have fresh water at their discretion. The same can't be said about food because it can tend to obesity.
