Origin
The Sea Dragon (trachinus draco) is also called the Sea Dragon, dragon fish or Sea Viper.
It is a fish of the Trachinidae family that lives on the sandy bottom of the sea, up to a depth of 150 m, but also near the shore.
The sea dragon can also reach shallow coastal areas when searching for food. It can be found in the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, The Sea of Azov, as well as in the waters of the European shores of the Atlantic Ocean.
in 2010, in July alone, no less than 44 people were stung by the sea dragon on the Romanian seaside.
Sea Devil food
It feeds on worms, crustaceans, fish chicks, and especially turbot chicks.
To attract its prey, the sea devil uses a" fishing rod " in the form of a movable spin, provided with a luminescent bulb at the end.
If any animal approaches to investigate the" bait", the thorn jumps up, the animal's jaws suddenly yawn, and the prey is swallowed.
In other species, such as the deep-sea devil, the light bulb hangs from the roof of the mouth, and the small fish attracted by the light are caught in its open mouth.
Features Sea Devil
He has a body six times longer than tall, a nearly straight back and a rounded abdomen. The fish, very unsightly, has the body covered by spikes on the dorsal side and around the ears, swollen head, short snout, bulging and large eyes.
The predominant body color is gray-reddish, with yellow and blue shadows on the sides, and the belly is white.
The first dorsal fin consists of venomous spines. Its bite is extremely painful and dangerous, the venom secreted by the fish being very strong; depending on the amount of Venom and the conformation of the victim, it can in some cases be fatal to humans.
It lives on the sandy bottom of the sea, well camouflaged. It is no more than 30-40 cm in length.
The spines and otavitor glands work in the following way: the interaction between two muscles attached to the fish's back contracts when a Predator meets or touches a human, causing the glands to secrete Venom and the spines to stand out. Also, the bite of this fish is painful.
Although it is a fish that lives mainly on the seabed (up to depths of 150 meters), the need for food will bring it to shallow waters where it can meet man.
The venom secreted by this fish is toxic to humans, but not deadly. Against the background of allergies can lead to complications, even death but there is effective treatment that counteracts the effects of the fucking big Venom.
The most popular places where the sea devil can be found are: the Mediterranean Sea, The Sea of Azov, the eastern Atlantic Ocean, the waters around the Canary Islands, Great Britain and the Black Sea. So, it's a fish that prefers a temperate climate.
Reproduction of the Sea Devil
The species called the bearded sea devil has a curious mating ritual and a surprising way of life. The male, about a quarter of the length that females usually have – clings to his partner, going to spend his life in the form of a parasite.
After locating it, detecting its smell, it inserts its jaws into the female's flesh, and its mouth joins with its skin, eventually mixing their blood.
The female provides her with food, while the male gives her sperm.
