Origin

It is a species of fish that has its origins in the fresh waters of the rivers and lakes of southern Brazil and Argentina, especially in the riverbed or in neighboring areas of the Rio Paraguay River.
This fish is also known as: Aphyocharax filigerus, Aphyocharax analis, Bleptonema amazoni, Paragoniatus muelleri, Aphyocharax anaialbis or Prionobrama madeirae.

In the Wild this fish feeds on many larvae and crustaceans.

This species of fish has an elongated and flattened body on the sides, which ends with a mouth with lips facing the surface of the water. They have a general silver color, a little metallic, and somewhat transparent in places.
Its tail is " V " shaped, well defined, with delimited lobes and a general red coloration. This red color is also spread over the body area located at the base of the tail. Its flippers are transparent. The anal fin is large and stretches to the base of the tail. The pelvic fins are arranged somewhat further to the middle of the body. The dorsal fin is small, at the base, and tall.
Its head is small, with some red tint in the area of the bronchi. Its eyes are medium in size, with an annular area bordering silver in color.
You need a dense floating vegetation that provides some protection. It is a robust and disease-resistant fish species that is recommended for beginner aquarists. Prionobrama filigera is peaceful, enjoying the company of other peaceful fish and being part of a well-rounded community. It prefers the middle and surface waters of the aquarium.
Moderate lighting is recommended, with areas of penumbra, this fish being very playful and skittish. At very strong jumina they will begin to swim erratically, potentially injuring themselves.
They can tolerate quite low temperatures, but still being tropical species, they feel good in tropical temperatures. Living plants, wood ornaments and Blackwater extract, are not necessarily needed, but levor improve health.

Reproduction Over Transparent

Reproduction, in captivity, is very easy in the case of this species of fish. You need a separate Aquarium and water with a temperature above 26C.
In a light water, this fish will reproduce in a maximum of one day. Males have a few black spots in the anal fin and have a slightly higher dorsal fin than females.
This species of fish can have a lifespan of about 12 years.
