Bear spirit

The spirit bear (Ursus americanus kermodei), also known as the Kermode bear, is a subspecies of the North American black bear that lives in British Columbia, Canada. One in ten bears has white or cream fur.
They are not albinos and are not related to polar bears. National Geographic estimates a population of spirit bears between 400 and 1,000 individuals.
The Kermode bear was named after Francis Kermode, a famous zoologist.
An estimated 400 individuals range from Alaska to northern Vancouver Island. Annually 120 bears live on Princess Royal Island.
Kermode bears live only in northern and central British Columbia, but their natural habitat has been destroyed to 60% and the exact number of remaining specimens is unknown.

Feeding Bear Spirit

One thing is certain when it comes to food. Although it is a relatively new species of Bear and not much is known about it we can say with certainty that its menu does not lack fish.
95% of the food is salmon. Besides the fish that they find in abundance in the northern waters they also feed on plants, berries, nuts or insects.

Features and behavior Bear Spirit

It has been shown that white bears are more effective at catching fish than black bears because they are less seen by fish.
The Kermode bear can reach a weight of 250 kg or more.
Females are much smaller, they can reach a weight of 135 kg. The height is about 180cm.

Breeding Bear Spirit

As with other species of bears, reproduction is slow. Bears usually hibernate from November to March.
The bear gives birth to 1-4 Bears during the hibernation period.
They stay with their mother until around the age of 2.
