Origin

The American fox dog is a descendant of English dogs brought to the Promised Land, America, in the middle of the seventeenth century to hunt foxes.

The breed was originally developed in Virginia, Maryland and Kentucky. French and Irish hunting dogs were also used to perfect the breed, thus creating the dog for modern-day American Foxes.

There are a few different types of dogs for American foxes that have formed over the years. The Walker type is the most common. Others include July, Trigg, Calhoun, Hudspeth and Goodman.

Over time, the American fox dog was used to hunt wild animals, and initially it seems to have been used to track American Indians.

In 1886, the American fox dog was recognized by the American Kennel Club as a member of the hunting breed group.

Foxhound Feed

Minimum 2-3 meals are recommended for good digestion. The amount of food your dog eats depends on its size, metabolism, and activity level.

As humans and dogs are unique, each individual may consume a greater or lesser amount of food and may be allergic to one food or another.

Foxhound Appearance

The American fox dog needs a lot of movement and is a submissive and loyal companion. It is friendly to humans and a good companion for children, but has a tendency to prefer the company of other dogs.

As with the English fox dog, the American fox dog is not recommended for people living in apartment buildings, as it requires too much movement. This dog would prefer to live in the countryside, where it can run freely and unhindered.

The American fox dog can be let off the leash only in a safe, fenced area as it tends to follow any smell that tempts it, exposing itself to various dangers.

Also, be sure that, like other hunting dogs, the American fox dog likes to bark and howl. Some people think their voice is melodious, but neighbors don't.
