Origin

It is said that the breed of australian shepherd dog originated in the Pyrenees mountains, but the current form is completed in the U.S. the name of the Australian Shepherd comes from the fact that it can handle and guard herds of sheep and that the origins of the breed also went through Australia.

The origin of this breed begins in the 1800s. It began to become popular after World War 2 with rodeo shows.

They called him Aussi many years ago. From the point of view of his work skills he managed to adapt to the harsh conditions and today he excels among the breeds of shepherd dogs.

In 1957, the American Australian Shepherd Club was formed, the largest Australian shepherd club in America. Because opinions were divided about joining the AKC (American Kennel Club), the club split into two camps, those who wanted and those who did not want to join the AKC.

In 1993, the AKC officially recognized the breed. The breed does not have a high official popularity because many specimens are not registered. In 2006 it won the "best-in-show" award in the UK.

Australian Shepherd Behavior

The Australian Shepherd is a dog that loves to take part in the daily activities of the family. It performs its tasks as well as it can, this breed is among the first in competitions and in the execution of commands. He has a very balanced temperament and has the strength to work all day.

He is active, intelligent and loves to learn. As a pet he loves his owners and tries to please them as best he can. He is loyal and affectionate.

He tolerates children very well, gets along with other dogs and other animals especially if he is taught from a young age with them. He likes to play with the ball and he would mess around all day long.

The hunting instinct can create some problems with small animals if it is not learned as a child or if it does not socialize with them for a while. They are dominant, they will protect their territory and their masters as best they can.

If you want an energetic dog, a dog that always occupies the australian Shepherd is the best solution.

Australian Shepherd Training

Like any dog and Australian shepherd must socialize with small animals and learn at least basic commands (sit, lie, etc.).

Training is mandatory for dogs to be able to communicate in certain situations. A dog does not know when to sit if it is not taught and the best time is when the quadruped is small because that is when he learns the fastest.

If we refer strictly to the australian shepherd we can say that it is an intelligent dog that learns easily. The most recommended workouts for him are flyball, competitions and agility exercises.

He needs constant and consistent training, commands that make him use both his muscles and his mind.

They can be trained to detect drugs or narcotics or to track.
