Origin

The Hound of Artois is the younger brother of The Hound of Saint Hubert. This breed of dog was appreciated by the Royal Courts during the reigns of Luduvic the 12th and Henry the 4th.

Nowadays its popularity has declined and it is a rare breed.

It is descended from Bloodhound. Over time the breed underwent some interventions and almost disappeared, but with help it was kept pure. By the mid-20th century the breed had almost disappeared. In the ' 70s Mr. Audrechy privately decided to reconstruct the breed with the remaining specimens. Now there are about 500 purebred specimens.

At the moment the breed is not standardized or classified in any organization.

Feeding Hounds of Artois

He is not particularly picky and lustful, his appetite and the amounts of food he needs being within the normal range.

It is preferable that the food given is well boiled, to reach the stage of porridge, and the usual ration contains both meat products, cereals, vegetables, dairy, eggs and sometimes fruits.

Food can be given in two meals, morning and evening. Water should be changed daily and at your discretion.

Appearance Hounds of Artois

The Artois Hound is a medium-sized dog, muscular and robust. The head is short and strong, the nose black, and the eyes are large and expressive.

Like the Saint Hubert hound, the ears are large and long.

The legs are strong, the long tail is sickle-shaped. The coat is short.

Behavior Hounds of Artois

It is an intelligent and agile dog, responds and quickly executes commands. The smell is well developed. Especially preferred for hunting rabbits where in the open field is very good.

It is also used to chase deer and Wild Boars. It does well both in the open field and in the thicket.

The Artois Hound is an energetic, brave and loyal dog. Despite the high energy level it is calm and balanced. A dog of moderate size that can be successfully used in taking traces.

He is affectionate and loving with those who care for him and feed him. Like any hounds are happiest in the forest or in the park when chasing various animals.
