A kitten with a raised paw salutes us from the threshold. The cat is made of ceramic and represents the traditional Japanese symbol of good fortune. It is modeled after the famous and beloved Japanese short-tailed cat.

Documents show that the domestic cat appeared in Japan at least a thousand years ago, being from China or Korea. The Japanese Bobtail has certainly existed in Japan for many centuries, being portrayed in many ancient documents and Paintings.

In 1968, Elizabeth Freret imported the first three Bobtail cats from Japan to the United States. In 1971 he obtained a provisional status in the FCA and was able to compete in gender competitions in 1976.

In 1993, the long-haired variety of the Japanese Bobtail cat was accepted by the FCA, which has existed for centuries in the East, as well as the short-haired varieties. Two specimens of this breed also appear in a painting dating from the fifteenth century, exhibited in the Art Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington.

Appearance Japanese Bobtail Cat

Although it looks elongated and finely chiseled, the head almost forms an equilateral triangle (not including the ears) with fine curved lines, raised cheekbones, a well-marked moustache joint area and a long nose well framed by two parallel lines. The ears are large, expressive, arranged at an appreciable distance from each other. The snout is quite wide and rounded, neither sharp nor testy. The chin should be compact. The eyes are more oval than Round, large and alert.

The body is medium in size, the males being proportionally larger than the females. The torso is long, supple and elegant, with a well-developed muscular system, without giving it a heavy appearance, being preferable to the overall harmonious appearance. The neck is neither too long nor too short, proportional to the length of the body.

The limbs are proportional to the rest of the body, long and supple, without being fragile. The hind limbs are noticeably longer than the forelimbs. The paws are oval, with five fingers on the forelimbs and four on the hind limbs. Fur-in short-haired specimens, the fur is smooth and silky, without a visible undercoat. In long-haired cats, the coat is medium to long, and is equally smooth and silky.

The presence of a front "collar" is preferable, the fur can be shorter and more glued to the body at shoulder level. Hair tufts at the ears and fingers are preferable. The fur should be arranged in such a way as to emphasize the contours of the body. The tail is a unique element and is not only specific to the breed, but to each individual specimen. Like our prints, we won't find two tails similar to Japanese Bobtail cats.

The tail must be visible and consist of one or more curves, angles or any combinations thereof. The tail can be flexible or stiff and must have a shape and size directly proportional to the rest of the body. Color-the color of the skin of the nose, pillows and eyes should harmonize with that of the coat. Blue eyes are allowed, as well as those of different colors. Behavior Cat Japanese Bobtail

Smart, funny, playful, affectionate, cuddly, elegant, beautiful. Anyone could find an endless number of attributes to portray the personality and appearance of these special cats. Japanese Bobtail specimens are strong and robust.

They usually have nests consisting of 3-4 chicks, which are very large, unlike other newborn fellows. Compared to representatives of other breeds, they begin to walk, become active and at the same time do nazbats much earlier.

This breed is famous for its increased resistance to diseases and a very low mortality rate among newborns. Puppies are not born completely without a tail, but also with a normal tail.

They are active, intelligent and very "talkative" cats. They are capable of a lot of "tones" of voice, this leads many to claim that they are cats that "sing". Given the fact that they love the company of people, Japanese Bobtail cats "talk" every time a few words are addressed to them. They like to carry various things in their mouths and bring the objects thrown by the master.

They are very good travel partners. Do not panic when attending exhibitions or when they are forced to travel, they adapt perfectly with dogs or other animals and get along very well with children. Japanese Bobtail cats come, indeed, from Japan.

Features Of The Japanese Bobtail Cat

These cats have always been an integral part of Japanese culture and art. In a suburb of Tokyo, there is the Gotokuji temple, dedicated to Maneki Neko, the cat with the raised Paw, who has long been considered a good luck talisman, especially in business.

Usually present in shop windows, the figurine is made of various materials, covering the entire range, from paper to porcelain. It can appear in the form of a toy, but also as a sophisticated art object of great value. Most Japanese Bobtail breeders collect such items.

Japanese Bobtail specimens should give the general impression of medium-sized cats, with harmonious silhouette and well-developed bone and muscular systems. They are slender rather than cumbersome.

The unique placement of the eyes, combined with raised cheekbones and a long nose, gives a distinctive look to the face, especially in terms of profile, different from other Oriental breeds. Their short tail should resemble that of a rabbit, camouflaging the bone structure of the tail.

The genetic factor that influenced the appearance of the Japanese Bobtail breed is totally different from the one that underlies the Manx breed, the tailless cat. The two races are not related in any way, the body types being completely different.

Diseases Of The Japanese Bobtail Cat

Regular maintenance operations are recommended, that is, shortening the claws, cleaning the eyes and ears.

It is important to know that for each individual cat, depending on the texture of the coat, various approaches or hygiene products may be needed.

Some brushing techniques can be used for both long-haired and short-haired specimens.
